The Newspaper

Welcome to Orion Newspaper! Here we write articles that include news and stories from all genres! If you would like to be a part of the Newspaper, please request so on the Student Council page. You have two choices for positions in the Newspaper:

  1. Writer
  2. Editor

Here are the types of content that I approved for the Newspaper

  1. Opinion (Based on a topic that you have a personal opinion on, comics and poems are allowed, and if have sources please cite them)
  2. Freestyle (anything you want, and if includes sources please cite them)
  3. Educational (Learn something new, and you should have sources so please cite them)
  4. Story (Any genre you want, comics are allowed, and if creating a series I suggest you write one chapter at a time)

Please write content that's appropriate - the editor(s) will remove inappropriate content/wording and report to me leading to a 1 on 1 discussion. Please note that you'll be expelled from the Newspaper after one offense! Editors if you do not remove this content/wording, you will be kicked out immediately! Gallegos will see it and you will be kicked out of NOT ONLY THE NEWSPAPER BUT ALL OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL AND ITS ORGANIZATIONS! I encourage you to consider the Newspaper and would love to see your potential in what you can bring to the table! Hope to see you!

Peers Helping Peers

Peers Helping Peers is an organization designed to help new students fresh out of the orientation course. Helping includes: showing how to navigate around the website, how to turn in work, how to message/friend people, how to create and attend meetings, how to download report cards, how to join/get in contact with groups, where to file an extension, etc. Members of the Student Council are required to assist their new peers. Each member will help 1-2 new students at Orion. Please be kind and have patience with our new peers. You must stay in contact with your assigned person and have meetings with them when requested.

Students eligible for help in Peers Helping Peers are those who have been attending Orion for 5 months or less. New students must comment on the discussion in the Peers Helping Peers page so that members know that you are new and in need of assistance! New peers will be sent a private message from their assigned helper. If your helper is being inappropriate towards you in any way please contact me, Esther Hernandez, and I will get in contact with our principal Dr. Gallegos.

The Book Club

The Book Club is not led by me, Esther Hernandez, but rather by Dalton Meeker, NHS President. This group will meet weekly to discuss questions, thoughts, and ideas over the chosen book.

How the choosing of the book will go:

1. All members will work together to decide on a book to read as a group

2. Each member will give recommendations by reading the book synopsis at a meeting, in order to have a variety of books to choose from

3. After that, everyone will discuss and come to an agreement on what to read

4. All members must be in agreement with the chosen book

Choose a book that is appropriate:

  1. No inappropriate language or content

      2. Background check your book’s content and age rating before suggesting the book

PG to PG-13 is what’s considered appropriate for Book Club

Goodbye, Friends

As you have read The Student Council has so much to offer! I do encourage you to consider the SC, again if interested please request yourself to The Student Council page, there will be a discussion where you are able to request me about joining and becoming a member. Each month I or Gallegos will host a meeting to introduce the new students and report on how each organization is doing! I hope to see you there and what you can offer to the Student Council, goodbye, for now!
