Tombi and Mashavu are 23 years old. Tombi is very independent, and Mashavu loves getting cleaned by the fish in the pool! Kiboko is 21 years old and the youngest of the bloat. Guests can always recognize Kiboko because of a small birthmark under her right eye.
Did you know? A hippo spends most of its life in the water and can hold its breath for up to five minutes. Contrary to popular belief, hippos do not swim. Often, they spend their time bouncing and moving off of rocks, natural debris and the bottom of lakes and rivers.
Hippos have eyes that sit on top of their heads, so they can get most of their body under water and still see above water. The nostrils are located on top of the muzzle, allowing the hippo to stay mostly underwater and still breathe. When a hippo submerges, the nostrils close to keep the water out - Saint Louis Zoo Happy Hippo day everyone

Our expert veterinary team suspects that the speargun head is lodged in the spine, and we are working towards establishing a treatment plan that will give Joan of Arc her greatest chance of survival. She is a gentle giant, is currently stable, and is being looked after round the clock by our highly experienced team.
Green sea turtles are an endangered species, and are protected under the law. We hope that our partnership with Crime Stoppers Queensland and Australia Zoo will lead to information on those responsible. To report a crime against wildlife, you can contact Crime Stoppers Queensland on 1800 333 000. — Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors - Australia Zoo
