Midland, Texas – Orion Online Learning, Inc. announced today that districts and high schools who would remain closed indefinitely because of damages suffered through Hurricane Ike may contact Orion Online High School in order to enroll (up to) 200 high school students in Orion High School’s online courses.
Orion was started by Texas educators and is managed by Texas educators. Orion is a candidate for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and Commission on International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA). Orion, with home offices in Midland, Texas, serves learners of all ages through the online high school. Orion’s learners come from all parts of the United States, as do Orion’s certified teachers.
Orion’s founder, Joseph Gallegos, announced this morning that Orion stands ready to accept, tuition-free, high school students from any of the communities who were in Ike’s path. The local community and/or school would agree to accept the learner’s credit upon return to his or her high school campus. Orion would keep all records and each learner would have an online certified teacher. Further, the community and or local district may provide some type of internet access for learners enrolled at Orion High School during this time.
Orion’s online courses are accessible anywhere there is an Internet connection. The courses are rigorous, based on the National Standards and aligned to the Texas standards. Teachers at Orion mentor learners through consistent interaction via the Internet.
Districts and/or high schools who would like to participate should call the Orion office at 1-877-647-1337 extension 701 or 703 to register learners. The Orion Online Campus is found at www.OrionHS.org – the Course Catalogue is found there as well.
