Orion is a candidate for Accreditation with AdvancED. The Commission on International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA), became a part of AdvancED last summer. AdvancED serves 27,000 schools across the United States and around the world. The integration of CITA into AdvancED brings all of the CITA schools into the AdvancED network and provides access to the wide range and depth of resources and support available through AdvancED.
As a candidate school, Orion now follows the AdvancED standards and accreditation process. Upon final accreditation, Orion will be accreditated under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) seal.

A Texas Law passed in 2003 by the Texas Legislature created provisions for students graduating from high schools like Orion High School. In essence, the law is clear that Texas institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) must apply the same admissions standards to students graduating from schools like Orion, as those for students graduating from public schools across the State. Although Orion High School is completing the rigorous accreditation standards for the Commission of International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA), institutions of higher education may not apply different standards for Orion graduates than they would for graduates of any other public high school, private high school, or non-traditional school. This means that Orion graduates are not required to show "proof" of school accreditation because that would constitute a different standard for admissions.Orion is a candidate for Accreditation with CITA, but holds additional accreditations from other organizations. CITA Accreditation allows Orion mentors and learners a smooth transition between and among regionally accredited institutions. Regional accreditation also speaks to the high quality of the Orion mission for teaching and learning.Below is the law as passed in Texas. Similar laws are in place across the Country. § 51.9241. ADMISSION OF STUDENT WITH NONTRADITIONAL SECONDARY EDUCATION. (a) In this section:
(1) "Institution of higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003. (2) "Nontraditional secondary education" means a course of study at the secondary school level in a nonaccredited private school setting, including a home school. (b) Because the State of Texas considers successful completion of a nontraditional secondary education to be equivalent to graduation from a public high school, an institution of higher education must treat an applicant for admission to the institution as an undergraduate student who presents evidence that the person has successfully completed a nontraditional secondary education according to the same general standards as other applicants for undergraduate admission who have graduated from a public high school. (c) An institution of higher education may not require an applicant for admission to the institution as an undergraduate student who presents evidence that the person has successfully completed a nontraditional secondary education to: (1) obtain or submit evidence that the person has obtained a general education development certificate, certificate of high school equivalency, or other credentials equivalent to a public high school degree; or (2) take an examination or comply with any other application or admission requirement not generally applicable to other applicants for undergraduate admission to the institution.
